【Etch-and-a-half 安裝映像檔更新】

由於十一月十二日 Lenny 安裝程式的第一個發行候選 (D-I RC1) 釋出，[1]Etch-and-a-half 的安裝 映像檔也跟著更新了。這次更新後，新版的映像檔在安裝時會使用新版本新的核心 (2.6.26)，但是安裝 完的系統用的還是版本 2.6.24 的核心。這表示在某些情況下安裝時支援的硬體在安裝完重開機後可能 無法使用，因為新硬體的支援可能是在版本 2.6.24 後加入的。 舊的 Etch-and-a-half 名片卡型與網路安裝光碟映像檔還是可以使用。舊的網路開機映像檔則不再支援 ，需要換成新的映像檔。 [2]Etch-and-a-half Debian 安裝程式網頁上有新映像檔和發行公告的連結 ，可以一覽安裝系統的改變。Debian 安裝程式團隊正在準備 Lenny 安裝程式的第二個發行候選 (RC2) ，之後 Etch-and-a-half 的映像檔也會跟著更新。安裝過程中使用的核心版本仍是 2.6.26。

【GNU Affero General Public License 獲准進入 Debian “main”】

Joerg Jaspert，代表 FTP 檔案庫團隊發布了一份[3]立場聲明，內容關於將使用 [4]GNU Affero General Public License version 3 (AGPLv3) 授權的軟體包含在 main 之中。簡單說，此聲明表示使 用 AGPLv3 的軟體可以進入 Debian/main，即使 AGPL 與 [5]GNU General Public License (GPLv3) 相比帶有有額外的條款。該條款要當使用者透過網路遠端與軟體互動時，則必須提供軟體的原始碼。

【Security 團隊在埃森的會議】

Martin “Joey” Schulze [6]報告了這次 Debian Security 團隊會議的內容，這次會議是在十一月廿八 到三十日在德國埃森舉辦。會議的成員包括了 stabe 與 testing 的 Security 團隊以及負責維護 backports 安全支援的開發者。

【新穩定版 SuiteTelecentro 2.0】

新穩定版 [9]SuiteTelecentro 可以從 Sourceforge 下載了。SuiteTelecentro 是一種客製化的 Debian，由 Banco do Brasil 的 IT Board 的自由軟體實驗室建立，Banco do Brasil 是巴西最大歷史 最久的公共銀行。

SuiteTelecentro 是以 Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 (Etch) 和 LTSP 4.2 為基礎。新的 2.0 版包含了更簡 單安裝，使用 GNOME 圖形環境以及：OpenOffice.org、MySQL、PHP、Apache、MediaWiki 與Ocara 電信 管理軟體。

Petter Reinholdtsen [12]宣佈支援相依性為基礎的開機程序的發行目標已經完成。這允許系統服務使 用從互相依賴關係計算出的開機順序開機，而不是使用事先決定好的順序。

他還指出目前 unstable 中 99.8% 的套件都有需要的相依性資訊，只有兩個套件沒有。但是還需要更多 的測試者幫忙查出各種套件組合的潛在問題。

【Debian bugs #600000 and #1000000 預測比賽】

Christian Perrier 宣佈因為 [13]bug #500000 已經在二零零八年九月廿四日出爐，Debian 開發人員 與志工們現在需要新的挑戰。所以一個新的預測比賽又來了，規則很簡單：參與的人必須預測 (一人一 次) bugs #600000 和 #1000000 出現的日期。預測越接近真正 #600000 與 #1000000 出現的人就是贏 家。

Debian wiki 上的[14]這個網頁用來紀錄。它會在二零零八年十二月卅一日變成唯讀，預測會被保留直 到 bug #600000 出現。然後這個頁面又會被開啟讓大家預測 bug #1000000。因此將會有四次預測 bug #1000000 的機會，帶來更多的不確定性與趣味。

【跨發行版合作維護遊戲】

由合併後的 Debian 與 Ubuntu 遊戲團隊以及 Fedora 的 Hans de Goede 發起，新的[15]通信論壇[16] 建立了，用來促進不同作業系統間遊戲的維護合作。目標是分享與複審那些上游計劃緩慢或不願意整合 的補釘，或是在上游計劃停止後成為新的上游。

【何時該做 non-maintainer upload？】

先前 [18]php5 套件的 non-maintainer upload 引起了[19]一些討論，關於何時以及該如何做 non-maintainer upload。雖然修復發行關鍵臭蟲是很重要的主題 (尤其是那些存在已久，維護者又沒動 作的)，發行團隊成員 Steve Langasek [20]提醒開發人員仍應該要先知會該維護者關於任何進行 NMU 的計劃，而 Thomas Viehmann [21]提醒維護者們應該要在兩週內修復，或者最少要替這些關鍵臭蟲留下 註解。

【在 Ubuntu 中很流行但不在 Debian “main” 裡面的套件】

Petter Reinholdtsen 做了項 [22]調查，關於哪些受歡迎的 Ubuntu 套件沒有包含在 Debian/main 中 及其原因。為了要決定套件的受歡迎程度，Petter 使用它們的 popcon 分數。他最後列出包含 152 個 受歡迎的 Ubuntu 套件列表，這些套件都不在 Debian/main 中。他認為這個數字比預期的還要少非常多 。

很多這些套件不在 Debian 內是因為 Debian 與 Ubuntu 間不同的套件結構或是其他的不同，而有一些 則是在 contrib 或 non-free 內。剩下很多套件都是多媒體相關的。Petter 認為如果能讓這些套件也 包含在 Debian 中是很好的事，並想鼓勵打包它們。

此外，James Westby 做了另一項[23]調查，關於這些沒包含在 Debian 中的 Ubuntu 套件的品質，使用 他們在 Ubuntu 臭蟲追蹤系統中的紀錄。

【徵求 Developer News】

【需要一個非官方的公開社群套件庫嗎？】

一些新套件被 ftp-masters [26]拒絕加入 Debian 招來一些關於是否需要給 [27]非官方套件用的[28] 套件庫，這些套件不符合 Debian 的標準或是未被支援。 Holger Levsen [29]指出現在有 [30] debian-unofficial.org，但它不夠[31]完美。 這使 Holger 思考一個在[32]debian-community.org 中 的[33]解決辦法。提議[34]使用 [35]apt-get.org 已經被 [36]否決了。

【buildd world 點滴】

【與新發行版有關的發行關鍵臭蟲狀態】

根據[39]非官方的 RC-bugs 統計，即將釋出的 Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 “Lenny” 目前有 118 個發行關 鍵臭蟲。其中的 43 個已經在 Debian “unstable” 修復。剩下的 75 個裡面，33 個已經有補釘 (可能 還需要測試)，5 個已經準備要上傳。

Otavio Salvador [1]宣佈釋出新安裝程式的第一個 release candidate ，此安裝程式將會與 Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 “Lenny” 一起發行。

從上一次 beta 版釋出以來的改進包括：

  • 改善 Live-CD 安裝的支援 (比先前更快且更穩定);
  • 支援一些使用 Marvell ARM-相容 Orion 晶片的 NAS 設備 (QNAP TS-109/TS-209 and TS-409, HP Media Vault mv2120, Buffalo Kurobox Pro);
  • 再次加入 Netwinder 安裝映像檔;
  • 加入 i386 Xen guests 安裝映像檔;
  • 加入硬體語音合成 (speakup) 的支援;
  • 提早在安裝階段就升級套件，例如在安裝基本系統時就取得安全性更新;
  • 支援在安裝過程中從其他(可移除)媒體載入 firmware;
  • i386/amd64: 支援安裝到 MMC/SD 卡，或是從卡上載入 firmware;
  • 新加入的翻譯: 威爾斯語, 愛爾蘭語, Northern Sami, 塞爾維亞語 (衣索比亞語和 Marathi 在上 次 beta 版加入)。

【Debian screenshot 服務始動】

Christoph Hass [5]公佈了新網站 [6]screenshots.debian.net ，用來存放 Debian GNU/Linux 發行 版中包含的許多應用程式的 screenshot 。 這個網站是為了幫助使用者在安裝軟體前可以先看一下軟體 在他們桌面執行時會是什麼樣子而產生。 任何人都可以自己製作 screenshot 然後上傳；網站管理團隊 檢視無誤之後便會公開。 [7]synaptic 套件管理員已經內建此 screenshot 服務的支援，其他套件瀏 覽器如 [8]goplay 或是[9]網頁介面的支援則正在討論中。

【”Open Use Logo” 重新授權】

在一次製作[10]手工 Debian 掛毯的機會，Francesco Poli [11]發現 Debian [12]“Open Use Logo” ( 也就是”漩渦”圖) 的授權已經從原本 non-free 的授權變成 [13]MIT 式的授權，給予使用者更多權限。 這關閉了一個存在已久的[14]臭蟲報告。

新的授權允許任何人使用、複製、修改、合併、公開、散佈、間接授權與販賣該圖像，而圖像包含註冊 商標 “Debian” 的版本，仍然只能在提及 Debian 計劃的場合使用。

【追蹤 GCC 4.4 相關建置錯誤】

Martin Michlmayr [15]公開了使用即將釋出的 GCC 4.4 的 snapshot 版重新建構整個套件庫的結果。 約有 220 個臭蟲回報在這個重新建置的過程產生，還有一些建置失敗的案例仍在分析中。 大部分與 GCC 4.4 相關的建置失敗的例子都很單純，多是因為 GCC 4.4 [16]增強了前處理器的檢查，或是因 為[17]遺漏一些 #include 敘述。

【Custom Debian Distributions 改名為 Debian Pure Blends 並啟用若干新服務】

Andreas Tille [19]宣佈各種客製化 Debian 發行版 (或者說，各種由 Debian 維護，用在特定需求的 套件集合) 將統一稱為 “Debian Pure Blends”。改名的原因是因為舊的名字容易被誤解。過去許多人認 為客製化 Debian 發行版是一些在 Debian 計劃之外維護的東西，這些東西有不同於原本 Debian 的新 特色。 經過計劃成員的討論後，大家都同意使用新名稱，並期望它能讓他們的狀態明朗化 (雖然[20]不 [21]是所有人都認為是成功的)。

Enrico Zini [22]開發了一隻新 script，可以顯示出以受歡迎程度排序的 Lenny 發行關鍵臭蟲。對於 一個想要先解決痛苦指數最高的臭蟲的開發人員，這隻 script 正是他需要的。任何有興趣執行此 script 的人需要有存取 people.debian.org 的權限，此 script 可以在 enrico/popzimmer 找到。

【Debian Wiki 的相關研究】

Anne Goldenberg，一位研究溝通與社會學的博士生，正在研究 Debian Wiki。他公佈了一份[23]問卷， 目的是了解 Debian 社群使用 Debian Wiki 的方法與概念。問卷的結果會以自由授權上網公開，並在郵 件論壇上公佈。

【使用合適的「急切程度」】 Adeodato Simó 提醒開發人員，欲上載的更新套件若為安全性修正，應該將急切程度設為 high。而 medium 程度則是用在修正影響發行的問題，包含解決那種在某些平台上無法正確編譯的情況。這些套件在 unstable 中等待進入 testing 的時間會比較短，因此在處理時也該特別用點心思。

【套件的所有權】 Martin Krafft 提出這樣的議題：Debian 的套件維護者是不是能接受和他人合作維護套件？Adeodato Simó 認為，在接受非該套件維護人員提供的修補（non-maintainer diff）前，若能讓它待在臭蟲追蹤系統中一些時日，對品質確保（QA）會有一定的幫助，因為這讓其他人能有機會幫忙檢視該修補的正確性。

【在 Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 上安裝 Xen】 Aike de Jongste 的一篇文章說明如何在一個 stable Debian 系統上安裝 backported 版的 Xen。所需的步驟包括了使用 APT pinning 安裝一些套件，製作一個特別的 RAM disk，在 grub 的開機選單中加上新的項目，以及建立 Xen 虛擬機器。

【讓衍生產品可以得到 Debian 名號的加持】 Anthony Towns 提議建立官方對衍生 distributions 的授權方式，讓這些衍生產品可以享受 Debian 信譽帶來的好處。當然，想要享有這些好處，這些衍生產品必須願意傾聽來自使用者的意見，並且和自由軟體社群保持良好合作關係。相對的，Debian 應該提供一個 logo，在網頁上加上該衍生產品的連結，協助發佈消息，以及建立未來合作和諮詢的準則。

【管理 Secure APT 的鑰匙】 Joey Schulze 好奇金鑰管理功能是否能在 etch 釋出前即時加入 APT中。Martin Krafft 反對僅僅只有自動更新金鑰，因為這實在太脆弱而易遭到攻擊。他較喜歡有第三方來替金鑰簽章。Florian Weimer 指出現在已知可行的辦法是給 stable releases 和 stable 安全更新使用不會改變的金鑰。

【產生程式的說明文件】 Marcio Roberto Teixeira 問道，Debian 套件中的文件檔應該要在編譯套件前就預先處理好，以節省編譯的時間，還是應該在編譯時一起處理。Goswin von Brederlow 表示，文件應該在該套件編譯時一併處理。如果這樣會嚴重影響該套件編譯的時間，那表示要把文件的部份獨立出來，另外包成一個各平台通用的套件，如此就不會在編譯每個平台的套件時一直重覆地處理那些文件。

【安裝 setuid 的程式】 Yui-wah Lee 問當一個程式需要 setuid 或是 setgid 時，它的套件該如何製作。Matthew Palmer 表示，此時套件維護人員除了要把檔案的權限設好，還可能要調整 dh_fixperms，以免權限又被改回預設的樣子。使用這些套件的系統管理者則可以用 dpkg-statoverride 來修改檔案的權限。

【套件描述文字的翻譯情況】 Michael Vogt 請大家幫忙測試 experimental 中的 APT。這個版本支援本地化的套件描述，這些翻譯過的描述其實在許多 sid 的 mirror 中都已經可以找到，在 Debian 套件描述翻譯計畫 （Debian description translation project）的網站上也可以取得。供大家參與翻譯的系統尚未完備，例如目前並未支援之前提供的校閱功能，但這些不足的部份都已有要著手進行開發的計畫。

歡迎閱讀本年度第三十期的 DWN，每週 Debian 社群快訊。 Christoph Berg 寫了一個工作的綜覽頁面 packages overview。他也宣佈倉儲已經搬到 Subversion，提交通知現在是直接由套件追蹤系統管理。

【DzongkhaLinux 啟動】 Debian 計畫宣佈釋出 DzongkhaLinux，一個基於 Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 的發行版，已經被本地化為不丹國語。這個系統由一片可以用來安裝亦可以當作 LiveCD 的光碟組成。不丹的資訊工業部門選擇 Debian 是因為它的功能齊全、可靠度和保證永遠是 100% 的自由軟體。

【統一 SSL 證書】 Jaldhar Vyas 想知道是否應該讓所有使用到 SSL 認證的套件統一使用 ssl-cert 套件中的 snake oil 證書。Petter Reinholdtsen 解釋說 Debian-Edu 已經自動設定好一些使用 SSL 認證的服務，這樣的改變會讓這個工作更簡單。

【處理 Stable 中的文件問題】 Osamu Aoki 要求替臭蟲追蹤系統增加 faq 標籤。很多時候關於 stable 的臭蟲回報是屬於常被問的問題，解答卻是被藏在不明顯的位置。關閉這樣的報告或是將其標示為 wontfix 聽起來不甚合理。

【管理計畫的資產】 Manoj Srivastava 提出針對 Debian 組織章程的修正案並尋求協助。這將使章程符合現在的需求以及管理各種財產的需要，允許加入或除去現在授權可以掌握 Debian 資產的合夥組織。

【套件追蹤系統升級】 Raphaël Hertzog 報告現在套件追蹤系統可以用來轉送衍生發行版的資訊。這使得對套件有興趣的人可以收到個別的小補釘，而不是合在一起的一大坨補釘。此外他也在徵求對新功能的幫助。

【釋出現況更新】 Marc Brockschmidt 對於 etch釋出現況所作的評論。他澄清釋出目標的意思並且要求開發者們努力降低影響到釋出進度的重大問題數量。臭蟲碾碎派對將在世界各地舉行。即將釋出的版本將使用 4.0 版號，並且可能會包含 Python 2.4、Linux 2.6.17 或更新、X.org 和大部分 sarge 支援的平台加上 AMD64。

【首頁連結於套件敘述】 Kai Hendry 指出在套件敘述中列出 URL 的方法是種 hack，通常都是遵從開發者參考手冊中的建議。Margarita Manterola 提議先修改 dpkg 增加首頁的欄位然後在準則中指出這個問題。Raphaël Hertzog 最後建議這個資料欄位應該可以和套件的 collaborative repository of meta informations 網頁應用合作。

【Debian 社群聚會將於義大利舉辦】 Marco Bertorello 宣佈，Debian 社群聚會將於 9 月 16 日和 17 日在義大利威尼斯舉行。本次的主辦單位是義大利 Debian 社群，歡迎 Debian 使用者、開發人員、翻譯人員、以及所有喜愛 Debian 的朋友一同來參與。

【PDF 檔壓縮事宜】 Yaroslav Halchenk 指出，現在 unstable 中附的 PDF 檔約有一半被壓縮成 .pdf.gz 的格式，因此無法直接使用一般的程式閱讀。雖然準則要求維護人員必需將大的文件檔壓縮，但是 PDF 檔本身其實已經是壓縮過的格式了。現在其它未壓縮的 PDF 檔約佔 150 MB，就算是用 gzip 把它們都壓縮起來，也只能省下約 50 MB 的空間。

【Debian Mantors 網站老店新開】 Christoph Haas 宣佈，旨在幫助尚未成為 Debian 開發人員的套件維護者尋找保證人，以便代為將他們的套件送入 Debian 檔案庫的 mentors 服務重新開張了。新的網站提供更強大的 web 介面以及一些新功能，相信可以幫助套件維護者找到保證人。

【使用 System-V 式的 Init 命令稿】 Lars Wirzenius 指出，許多套件在它們的維護人員命令稿（maintainer scripts）中，至今尚未使用 invoke-rc.d。在 3.7.2 版的規章中有明訂這項規則，而且 lintian 也已經會檢查這個項目。根據 etch 發行前待辦事項的列表，雖然這些套件違反了規章，但是這種 bug 並不影響發行。

【信任網路的可信度】 在最近 Debian Conference 期間，Martin Trafft進行了一個金鑰簽署實驗來凸顯 Debian 信任網路的問題。這個網路由 GnuPG 金鑰間的簽章組成，這表示簽署人有理由相信這個金鑰的所有人真的是他所宣稱的那個人。然而，簽署人並沒有檢查政府發放的身份證的合法與否，這在有 140 人之多的國際活動中，有各種不同的身份證，並不容易做到。

【碾碎蟲子馬拉松】 Martin Zoble-Helas 宣佈了三個臭蟲碾碎派對會在秋天舉行，各自有不同的主題 以幫助 etch 的釋出。八月時 debian-installer 應該已經通過測試 且安裝過程中的臭蟲都被修復。九月時，尚未釋出的 etch 和 sarge 中的變動將被重新檢視 ，剩下的臭蟲應該要被修復。十月，基礎套件中的臭蟲應被全數修復。他正在尋找 其中兩場或全部派對的主辦單位。

【Etch 的釋出目標】 Andreas Barth 宣佈 etch 的釋出計畫已經改變。 通過認可的釋出目標包括了使用 GCC 4.1，和 LSB 3.1 相容，SELinux 支援，廣泛使用 IPv6，大型檔案支援，和新的 Python 框架。六月十五號是轉移到 GCC 4.1 和 Python 2.4 的最後期限，在六月三十號所有的基礎工具鍊和核心將會凍結，以期能在十二月釋出。

【圖形 Debian 安裝程式映像檔】 Frans Pop 報告 圖形介面的安裝程式 已經是正式每日建構的映像檔的一部分。 目前有 i386 平台的版本， amd 和 powerpc 的很快就會出現。 要使用這個 新的安裝程式，用開機選項「installgui」或是「expertgui」 都可以。 Frans Pop 解釋到圖形介面可能會在 etch 釋出之後 變成預設選項。

【Debian 開始散佈昇陽的 Java】 Jeroen van Wolffelaar 宣佈 昇陽修改授權之後，昇陽的 Java 套件 已經在 Debian 的 non-free 區域。 Debian 仍然會繼續提供支援自由的 Java 執行環境和開發環境，像是 Kaffe 和 GCJ。 儘管如此，Red Hat 仍 抱怨這樣仍然不夠自由，昇陽最起碼要釋出他們的虛擬機器（JVM）。

【分解 Changelog 檔案】 Nico Golde 好奇 要怎麼處理那些巨大、老舊的 debian changelog 尤其是當它們可能被不斷編輯並不斷 變得更大。一個主要的選擇 是保留整個檔案，因為它包含了所有關於為什麼還有何時 bugs 被修復的紀錄。 因為它都是在壓縮之後才包進套件，所以花掉的空間通常還是可以被接受的。
